Data Parameters & Sources
Understanding the Parameters
Data Parameters Analyzed and Displayed in the App
CURBEET is a consolidation of the latest technology from Komunidad. The app is powered by the best local datasets from sensors, earth observation satellites, artificial intelligence (AI) and local community data.
Localized Early Warnings through Chat, In-App Notifications and SMS
In this version we are focused on severe weather and itseffects, below are the updated list of parameters used in the system
- Tropical Cyclones
- Heavy Rain
- Chance of Rain
- High Heat Index
- Strong Winds
- Lightning Strikes
- Dangerous Thunderstorms
- Government Weather Advisories
- High Mosquito Activity Index
In the next version, we will be adding more natural hazard parameters.
Rain, Wind, Temperature
Rain, wind, and temperature are fundamental weather parameters that provide essential information about atmospheric conditions in a specific location. Rainfall measures the amount of precipitation in millimeters(mm). Wind speed (kph) and direction determine the movement and intensity of air masses. Air temperature is a measure of how hot or cold the air is, which measures in degrees Celsius (DegC).

Low-Pressure Areas (LPA) and Tropical Cyclones (TCs)
Low-Pressure Areas (LPA) and Tropical Cyclones (TCs) are atmospheric systems that can affect weather conditions in a specific region ,i.e., in the Philippines. A Low-Pressure Area (LPA) is an area where the air pressure is lower than its surroundings. It can cause unstable weather like cloudy weather, heavy rains, and sometimes severe thunderstorms. TropicalCyclones, on the other hand, are intense low-pressure systems that form over warm tropical or subtropical waters. They have strong winds that rotate around a center. It can bring heavy rains, strong winds, and dangerous conditions, such as flooding and landslides. The app provides the precise location, forecast track, and intensity of LPAs, forecast cone, or TCs based on the latest information from the sources. It provides the distance between a weather system and the locations registered in the app. Understanding these systems helps us prepare and stay safe during extreme weather events.

Lightning and Thunderstorms
Lightning is a powerful electric spark that happens in the sky during a thunderstorm. A thunderstorm is a type of cloud that includes rain and lightning. Thunderstorms can be dangerous. Lightning occurs during every thunderstorm. To help the user stay safe and make informed decisions, CURBEET uses data from Vaisala. Vaisala provides accurate information about lightning and thunderstorms in the Philippines through their reliable lightning detection networks, visualization tools, and network management.

Mosquito Activity Index
Mosquito Activity can have a lifestyle impact on our daily lives. Mosquitoes are notorious for their bites and ability to transmit vector-borne diseases such as Dengue or Malaria. The app indicates the weather’s influence on the activity of mosquitoes based on weather conditions. The weather factors involved include relative humidity, temperature and windspeed. Low wind speeds, high relative humidity and warm, but-not-hot temperatures form weighted contributions. It has observed and forecasted the activity of mosquitoes in the next hours and days. Monitoring the activities of mosquitoes is essential to minimize lifestyle disruptions and prevent transmission of diseases.

Emergency Hotline Phone Numbers
The hotline and phone number information is available for Philippines users.
We have aggregated phone numbers of Local Government's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) managed by its local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (DRRMO). These are publicly published information and we ensure that we keep this updated on a regular basis. Other Emergency Hotline numbers are generated using OpenAI.
